New VR sci-fi shooter Into The Darkness impresses with elaborate graphics and physics-based action

With its striking visuals and a physics-driven combat system, Into The Darkness VR is generating buzz ahead of its upcoming Early Access release.
In Into The Darkness VR, you step into the shoes of Agent Frank, embarking on a high-stakes mission to a seemingly deserted research facility. Outfitted with cutting-edge gear, you’ll go toe-to-toe with relentless android adversaries and peel back the layers on a shadowy immortality project.
What sets Into The Darkness VR apart is its commitment to physics-based gameplay. You’re not just shooting — think intercepting rockets mid-air and flinging them back at your attackers, or physically ripping limbs off hostile robots. The enemies aren’t just bullet sponges either; they actively adapt to your tactics and leverage the environment to keep you on your toes.
Curious how that all comes together? Here’s a look at the action in the gameplay trailer:
PSVR 2 Version on the horizon after PC launch
Into The Darkness VR offers two distinct ways to play. Story mode puts you through a six-level campaign, blending narrative with action-packed set pieces. If you’re more about experimenting, the sandbox mode drops you into a sprawling environment packed with rooms and props, where you can summon enemies, weapons, and items at will — perfect for testing the game’s physics to your heart’s content.
The team at 9 Lives has locked in May 29, 2025, as the Early Access launch date for PC VR headsets, with pricing set at just under $20.
Launching in Early Access isn’t just about getting the game out the door — 9 Lives is looking to actively incorporate community feedback to fine-tune the experience. They’ve also made it clear that this development phase will pave the way for a polished PSVR 2 version.
An optimized edition for Sony’s VR headset is firmly in the works. As the developers put it in a recent Reddit post, they “truly believe that this headset [PSVR 2] is the perfect home for Into The Darkness VR.”
